 Lançado no Festival de Brasília e premiado com seis candangos, releitura de Alice no país das maravilhas de Lewis Carroll, uma menina no quintal da avó segue um bode preto, cai em um buraco, descobre um mundo mágico em pé de guerra contra um coronel que quer destituir as terras de povos tradicionais para a construção de uma usina hidrelétrica."

The exhibition was concepted, designed and curated by the artist and researcher of multimedia Rodrigo Gontijo, the scenery was designed by Lee Dawkins, the art director is Tissa Kimoto and it was produced by Ayo Cultural.

 

 

Follow the Alice of Jonathan Miller

"The film is very elaborate in its setting. […] I wanted to recreate, in addition to a dream, that bursting fatal ripeness of Pre-Raphaelite realism. I wanted the child to move through a world where every detail threatened to blossom with some dreadful vision. Grass blades, dewdrops, bricks, silk brocade, violets, and lace. […] It seems that the film contains the entire visual contents of the child’s mind. Every object and surface she has ever seen and forgotten looms up with fatal clarity. […] We petitioned for that special syrupy English summer heat when insects play cellos in the grass and oak trees stand stock still on their own doilies of midsummer shadow. Because that’s the sort of afternoon when Alice fell to drowsing. […] It’s quite clear that Carroll understood the awful apocalyptic mystery of English nature—its terrible damp, mossy fecundity with hobbits and angels ripening like dragonfly larvae in the ooze"

Alice as a Dreamscape

Exhibition at the ACMI museum in Melbourne (Australia) opens new doors into Alice's dreamscape plenty of curiouser and curiouser enigmagic adventures. In their site we can witness an open mind approach encompassing a metamorphic Alice in pictures and conversations, multidimensional thinking and kaleidoscopic imagination.

Our crew would love to go to visit Alice in the other side of the world! This blog you are reading now, Alicinations, is a huge map of wanders and wonders and has also been opening doors and seeding alcedelic neuroplastic gardens in the collective Alice dreamscape, plenty of surprises in Alice's endless rizomatic adventure.

The great Brazilian author Monteiro Lobato was the first to translate Alice in Wonderland into Brazilian Portuguese in 1931. Three years later he had the chance to watch Alice in the Paramount movie with Charlotte Henry as Alice. He than wrote a note for a newspaper and concluded: 

 

 

"In essence, the dream that Carroll attributed to Alice has just been dreamed again." Monteiro Lobato

Borthers Quay sonham Alice de novo! Animadores assombrosamente maravilhosos.

 

Ron Magliozzi describes the Brothers Quay as alchemists, with "the mystifying ability to turn the 'degraded reality' of discarded doll parts, screws, string, and metal filings into profoundly expressive characters". Their monochrome Wonderland is set to a Prokofiev score which pitches to a wailing kettle crescendo as Alice falls beyond the looking glass.

Follow another Quays Brother enigmagic Alice dream.

This film is like a cabinet of curiosities. Quay Brothers are among my favorite animators ever.You should know more about Brothers Quay's films, which plunge into the universe of the unconscious, in a fragmented and dreamlike language, where lights, dust, decadent scenery, strange objects and dolls in ruins haunt memories and reveal childhood fears in melancholic day dreamings. Fear and desire, delicate ruins, precious nightmares. While this is not exactly a movie about Alice, it contains many elements suggestive of the imagination of Lewis Carroll. Shifts in perception of space and time, a rabbit and a girl, a mysterious bottle, subversion of logic, metamorphosis, wild imagination.

Adriana Peliano: Achei o resultado efervescente. Não só pela criatividade, inteligência e engenhosidade dos artistas envolvidos como também por homenagear a obra de Lewis Carroll no que ela tem de fértil e inspiradora. O chapeleiro é também um artista que vive num outro tempo, com outra lógica, que subverte o conhecido e o lugar comum com enigmas e desafios para a linguagem e o pensamento. Sinto que os chapéus criados para a exposição dialogam e compartilham maravilhas criando um ambiente lúdico e especial para os visitantes. No mundo louco em que vivemos somos chamados por uma loucura afirmativa que movimenta a diferença e a multiplicidade, num elogio à imaginação e à liberdade criativa."

Elefante Voador: Como foi a experiência da confecção do chapéu para a exposição?

Adriana Peliano: Foi muito inspiradora e alicedélica. O chapéu é um símbolo que oferece múltiplas possibilidades criativas. A cartola do mágico é uma de suas manifestações que nos encantam e ainda surpreendem. Inicialmente sonhei com um portal abrindo passagem para outros mundos magicósmicos. O chapéu que criei tornou-se então um vortex líquido aonde Alice mergulha em espirais de sonhos, segurando uma chave mágica. Paralelamente ela viaja em sua máquina multidimensional desbravando novas aventuras e desafiando o tempo e espaço como conhecemos. Essa simultaneidade de ações em movimento e em diferentes escalas conversa com as aventuras cinematográficas de Alice. Nesse sentido a colaboração da aderecista Fabiana Fukui foi fundamental para materializar esse sonho.

Explosição de chapéus alicedélicos em São Paulo

Ontem participei de um encontro especial. 10 chapeleiros loucos criaram seus chapéus em homenagem à Alice… Idéias alicedélicas transbordam de uma cartola enigmágica que vive além do tempo sem tempo. Nessa data dei uma palestra ilustrada sobre o tema "Em busca do tempo querido - Alice conversa com o tempo".

O evento foi criado pela ong OrientaVida que serviu um chá com delícias em lindas mesas e louças alicianas, cheias de comames e bebames apetitosos. Meu agradecimento especial à Celeste Chad e Zoraide Stark, que em parceria com a Disney promoveram esse encontro, nas vésperas do lançamento do novo filme de Alice produzido pelo Tim Burton.

I'm fascinanted by this amazing new Alice adventure. 

As the Brazillian author Monteiro Lobato said when he watched the Paramount Alice movie in 1933: "Alice's dream has just been dreamed again."

Some Japanese doll artists  including this crew have a peculiar connection with the dream of Alice, daring the uncanny and the enchanted, bringing memories of stop motion animators and doll makers  and surreal artists as Hans Bellmer and the garden of delights of Hieronymus Bosch, among other influences.

They capture the arcane side of Alice, as a dreamer with power to unlock doors of consciousness

opening the creative paths to the fantastic, the magical and marvellous as a journey toward ou inner Alicedelic gardens.

Unfortunately I didn't manage yet to find the names of the crew that created and produced this treasure but I will post as soon as I get.

But I recognize the presence of Mari Shimizu's dolls.
