"The alicinatory paintings by the contemporary Portuguese painter Diogo Muñoz are an adventure and an intertextual game, bringing a vast scope of references from art history. His acrylic canvas presents dialog with artists from different periods, from masters like Bruegel and Bosch to the modern and contemporary Bacon, Picasso, Leger, Warhol, Dali, Miró, and Magritte, among others.
Alice can be one of the girls from Velazquez in many guises, defying the viewer in a continuous metamorphosis. Each picture opens multiple associations, expanding reading to a broader epistemological challenge. These references are not just linear quotations but metalinguistic devices calling attention to the artistic language and its complex dialog with time, history and memory. The reader is challenged to participate in the game, following the corkscrew paths of reading and understanding both pictures and conversations."
