"The second extraordinary adventure Lewis Carroll took Alice on turns 150 this year. Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There (1872) takes place on a chessboard, although observing idiosyncratic rules. As in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865), the heroine meets surprising characters and engages in disconcerting dialogues through language games and the invention of words. In each chapter, in successive spaces on the chessboard, characters present the reader puzzles about space and time, language and logic, consciousness and the world of dreams.
Inspired by Alice, we now invite you to go through the looking-glass, traveling with a multitude of Alices. For the exhibition we created two chessboards, bringing together images from 42 illustrators of many different nationalities, all depicting Alice as she crosses through the mirror. We also present Alicedelic editions from disparate parts of the world. The books are exhibited chapter by chapter to tell the adventures of the enigmatic girl in her peculiar world."
