Quantum reality: ALICE: A Large Ion Collider Experiment

"Paradoxo, nonsense, jogo, labirinto. O tabuleiro de xadrez que cruza a obra de Lewis Carroll Através do Espelho o que Alice encontrou por lá (1871) é movido por caminhos enigmáticos, curvaturas insólitas, geometrias impossíveis. A lógica se inverte e se subverte enquanto Alice se aventura em um mundo ao contrário, em que é preciso correr o mais rápido possível para ficar no mesmo lugar. Viajante do extraordinário, Alice salta na toca do coelho, atravessa o espelho e encontra tabuleiros, túneis, labirintos, jardins secretos, florestas misteriosas e portas que levam a outras portas. 

A obra de Lewis Carroll é a terra incógnita na qual o leitor pode atravessar, perder-se e desbravar novos sentidos. Lembremos que o caminho a seguir, depende de onde cada um quer chegar. Os sonhos de Alice desafiam nossos saberes acomodados. A Rainha Branca, por exemplo, é capaz de lembrar do futuro. Lewis Carroll também se lembrou do futuro e, antes de Einstein, imaginou conceitos relativísticos. No País das Maravilhas o Tempo é relativo. O Chapeleiro diz que o Tempo é alguém e ele pode acelerar ou desacelerar, fazer o que quisermos com o relógio. 

As aventuras de Alice anteciparam conceitos da física moderna que nos defrontam com uma realidade que supera amplamente a imaginação. Em Mundos Paralelos - Uma viagem pela Criação, Dimensões Superiores e Futuro do Cosmos, o físico teórico Michio Kaku explica uma possibilidade surpreendente que emergiu da Física Moderna: que o nosso Universo pode ser apenas um, entre infinitos outros numa vasta rede cósmica. Em uma visão quase alicedélica da realidade, anuncia: “No multiverso, há palcos paralelos, uns por cima dos outros, ligados por alçapões e túneis escondidos. Os palcos, de fato, dão origem a outros palcos, num processo infindável.” Entre 2021 e 2022 a travessia do espelho de Carroll completa 150 anos. Até onde a sua visão alcança, o mundo que Alice vê através do espelho de casa é muito parecido “só que adiante pode ser completamente diferente”. Alice vislumbra uma realidade quântica, ao mergulhar no campo de possibilidades infinitas.

Os enigmas de Alice não se satisfazem com formas fixas, descrições literais ou explicações razoáveis. No mundo atual, Alice (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) é o nome de um experimento do Grande Colisor de Hádrons, o maior acelerador de partículas do mundo. Sua logomarca mostra Alice diante de um portal. As mais inovadoras instalações imersivas de realidade virtual da atualidade desafiam o impossível, a linguagem do sonho e a travessia para mundos paradoxais regidos por outras leis, que são vetores da viagem de Alice do outro lado do espelho."

 "The Children’s Garden,  in San Francisco, uses grass, gravel, and beds tiny flowers to create a dynamic, almost maze-like space where children can run and play. The sharp angles and contrasting colors in the design turn a soft, safe surface into a striking work of art. A tunnel on one end of the space looks like Alice in Wonderland's portal into imaginary worlds."

I just discovered this incredible contest for creative works inspired by the works of Lewis Carroll.


"About the Award 

 The Wonderland Award is an annual multidisciplinary competition that encourages new scholarship and creative work related to Lewis Carroll (1832-1898). The award was established in 2004 with the sponsorship of Linda Cassady. The 1st award was made in spring 2005; speaking at that event was the great-granddaughter of Alice, Vanessa St. Clair. Since then, there have been more than 250 student submissions and the success of the program prompted USC to open the competition to students from other Southern California colleges and universities for the 2011 award. "

"One of the most unusual entries ever received for the contest involves this series of documents that together compose a bizarre murder mystery. Burcar’s work proposes a scenario in which a girl named Alice (Arisu in Japanese, the name she used for her blog) methodically plots to kill her mother with thallium, a toxic metallic element with a long and sensational history of use as a poison. Included in this piece is a scientific flow chart of Alice’s experiments on rodents, as well as a printout of her sixteen-month online diary where she tracked her progress and discussed her dissections of rabbits. In addition, documentation of the aftermath of her “success” includes a local newspaper article and a memo detailing what can only be assumed is the attempt by her abusive father to profit from the sad chain of events with a tell-all exclusive story."

Hegarty asks us to ponder whether, as he was furiously dashing off one of the 100,000 personal letters he sent to friends and acquaintances over the course of his life, he looked up from his desk, cluttered with games, word puzzles, and photographs, and saw himself in a mirror—and whether this mirror could have inspired the sequel, Through the Looking-Glass."

"Literature is rife with stories of protagonists—like Alice—who in the course of their journeys encounter unusual objects in their paths. A fourth place award went to an entry that gives a brief glimpse into the lab of the mad (and altogether unseen) alchemist of Alice in Wonderland. The work area is stocked with vials full of colored liquids, octopi, exotic herbs and spices, granulated powders, and a bottle of mind-altering absinthe. In the middle of it all a flask labeled “Drink Me” alerts viewers they are getting a privileged look behind the scenes at the ingredients that went into the foods Alice eats near the beginning of her great adventure down the rabbit hole."

 "Sun’s work features vignettes inspired by various scenes from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. A montage of black-and-white, color, and artfully modified photographs reveals a psychological depth to Alice’s character as she explores Carroll’s exotic invented landscape. These images, punctuated with quotations from the story, invite one to participate vicariously in Alice’s journey. The role-playing evident here is reminiscent of certain “beggar maid” photographs Carroll staged around the same time he was composing the Alice stories."

" A second place award went to a work offering clues to a mystery that has long intrigued scholars. Lewis Carroll wrote almost daily in his diary, affording a fascinating look into his life and sources of inspiration. However, soon after his death in 1898, several volumes of his diaries disappeared, including those surrounding the time he spent with his muse Alice Liddell. Thielke’s scrapbook, which purports to be Lewis Carroll’s, contains poems, photographs, acrostics, and, intriguingly enough, part of his personal diary from June 27, 1863—a day that some have theorized Carroll actually proposed marriage to the young Alice. The photographs inside the scrapbook echo portraits taken by Carroll in the mid-nineteenth century."

"An Ames room is a distorted room that is used to create an optical illusion. Probably influenced by the writings of Hermann Helmholtz, it was invented by American ophthalmologist Adelbert Ames, Jr. in 1934, and constructed in the following year. An Ames room is constructed so that from the front it appears to be an ordinary cubic-shaped room, with a back wall and two side walls parallel to each other and perpendicular to the horizontally level floor and ceiling. However, this is a trick of perspective and the true shape of the room is trapezoidal: the walls are slanted and the ceiling and floor are at an incline, and the right corner is much closer to the front-positioned observer than the left corner (or vice versa). (See overhead view diagram to the right) As a result of the optical illusion, a person standing in one corner appears to the observer to be a giant, while a person standing in the other corner appears to be a dwarf. The illusion is so convincing that a person walking back and forth from the left corner to the right corner appears to grow or shrink. Studies have shown that the illusion can be created without using walls and a ceiling; it is sufficient to create an apparent horizon (which in reality will not be horizontal) against an appropriate background, and the eye relies on the apparent relative height of an object above that horizon."
