"I am creating a site specific Alice installation of pinhole photographs and sound at the Château de Lacaze, Lacaze 81330 Tarn France. May 6-May 30th 2012. The photographs are made from marionettes made in the 1940s based on Tenniel illustrations. the installation will use different parts of the château to consider different aspects of the the Alice books. Visitors will descend (like Alice through the rabbit hole) into a cave like area where the photographs will pose questions of identity and reality. Visitors will then climb up to the mezzanine areas and consider the philosophical,and nonsense aspects of the books, another passageway will lead to the domain of the Queen of hearts and Carroll's satirical look at victorian society."

Esse estilo, intitulado “nonsense”, é a marca do escritor, que fazia jogos de palavras e enigmas muitas vezes indecifráveis, além de descrever situações e mundos aparentemente sem sentido, de “não sentido”.

She was born on a river, with its switchbacks and reflections, following and fighting the flow, in the geometry of laughter and strange paradoxes. We do not read a book; we dive into it. It surrounds us, constantly. Sitting on the bank, Alice would ask herself: and what is the use of a book without pictures and conversations? Alice has been perhaps the most illustrated book of all time. This shows that we continue to answer the question that Alice did not ask: and what is the use of a book with pictures and conversations?

"Alice no Brasil das maravilhas

Entre o sonho e a realidade, deixando correr a imaginação. Alice é feita de coragem e poesia. Alice representa a nossa alma, nosso espírito, nossa vontade, nossos desejos, dúvidas e inquietações. Mas o seu grande valor é que ela, uma menina, não tem medo. Por isso seguiu atrás do coelhinho malandro vestido de verde e amarelo, que somos todos nós.
Olhando o relógio que marca apressadamente os séculos, ele dava no pé, dizendo: estou com pressa, muita pressa. Será que falava do Brasil? O ano 2000 está aí e nós estamos muito atrasados, bastante atrasados. E lá vai Alice atrás do coelho tagarela. Entra na toca do malandrinho e cai no abismo. É o Brasil mesmo.
A caída é longa. Tudo vai para o fundo do poço. No final, Alice chega num grande salão com muitas portas fechadas, outras sem fechaduras, outras abertas sem levar a lugar nenhum. Só não é um beco sem saída porque existe uma portinha bem pequenina, a menor de todas, mostrando um lindo jardim, princípio de floresta, nossa natureza – a Mãe Terra.
Mas a porta é estreita. Alice toma um licor, diminui demais e esquece de apanhar a chave de ouro na mesa de cristal. Come um pudim e cresce, ficando gigante. Desespera-se e começa a chorar, afogando-se em suas próprias lágrimas. Igualzinho como acontece conosco.
E aí aparece o Don Lagarta que pergunta: quem é você? Alice brasileira e nós brasileiros não sabemos responder.
Já perdemos nossas identidades, nossas caras. E o Don Lagarta dá a grande lição de sua evolução. Transforma-se em deslumbrante borboleta. Tinha 13 anos quando li pela primeira vez li as Alices de Lewis Carroll e, desde então, tento encontrar a toca do Coelho Branco na intenção de ir morar lá dentro do País das Maravilhas. Como, até agora, não consegui encontrar, me contento em apreciar e estudar sobre essa brilhante e eterna obra. Foi para isso que eu e minha amiga, Aline Marcelino, nos juntamos em 2011 e decidimos fazer como trabalho de conclusão do curso de jornalismo, na Faculdade Cásper Líbero, sob orientação da professora Helena Jacob, o almanaque Alice Disse: As obras de Lewis Carroll e como suas histórias e personagens influenciaram o mundo. É um tema gigantesco e um objetivo megalomaníaco, eu sei, mas a nossa intenção nunca foi dar conta de todo o universo de Alice (porque seria impossível), sim compilar informações para que as pessoas possam entender e apreciar ainda mais esse clássico da literatura ocidental, que se tornou também um símbolo da cultura pop mundial.

"The starting point for the exhibition is Carroll’s original manuscript, written in 1864. The exhibition will offer a rare opportunity for visitors to view Carroll’s own drawings, photographs and photographic equipment, alongside Victorian Alice memorabilia, programmes from early stage adaptations and John Tenniel’s preliminary drawings for the first edition of the novel. Work from Gabriel Rossetti and Sir John Everett Millais will also feature, in addition to paintings by William Holman Hunt and Arthur Hughes, who were referenced in Carroll’s diaries.

Surrealist artists from the 1930’s onwards were drawn into the fantastical world of Wonderland and from the 1960’s through to the 1970’s Carroll’s tales prompted conceptual artists to explore language and its relationship to perception. No word exists for imaginary characters such as Hamlet, or Frankenstein and his Creature, who have developed autonomous life, leaping off the stage or out of a book, who add to the variety of human personalities we all know and offer us compass bearings. Of all such figments, the most recognisable must be Alice, the little girl questor at the heart of Lewis Carroll's two classic stories, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There (1871).

It's perhaps surprising that an art gallery, rather than a library, is holding a huge survey exhibition about Alice, but then Carroll's creation has been and still is the inspiration of artists, photographers, theatrical designers, animators, film-makers. The new Tate Liverpool show explores this territory, from the author's own rarely seen manuscript illustrations and marvellously evocative biographical materials (Carroll's perceptive and often lyrical photographs, works of art by his pre-Raphaelite friends) to the Surrealists, for whom Alice became a cherished myth.

The Surrealist movement is represented by some of the most potent works in the exhibition: Salvador Dalí's illustrated edition of Alice, and the finest painting in Dorothea Tanning's oeuvre, the eerie Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, with sunflowers bursting colossal tentacles around the little girl with her hair on end in spikes of flame. The Surrealist legacy is still very fertile, in the context of a growing return to myth, fairytale and romanticism.

Alice is the prototype of wise child and naive innocent – as seen in the vision not only of such artists as Peter Blake and Graham Ovenden, but of their successors in disquiet, Annelies Štrba and Alice Anderson, practitioners of the contemporary uncanny who give a new feminist twist to the heroine. Alice has grown older and more knowing than her original model, and turned into the receptacle of erotic dreams, a femme enfant with whom women artists strongly identify: the knowledge you are Alice as strong as the longing for her.

In this intriguing court Sonja, doing a specialty on skates, meets such famous story-book characters as the Cheshire Cat, Carpenter, Walrus, Dodo Bird, Knave of Hearts, Queen of Hearts, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Humpty Dumpty and others. Highlight of the fantasy is Sonja's entrance through a looking glass. And, of course, there is the trial of the Knave of Hearts who stole the tarts from the Queen of Hearts.

LOOK WHO'S ENTERTAINING SONJA HENIE

Her hosts are none other than the Mad Hatter and the Dormouse giving a tea party for the winsome heroine in a movie sequence of Lewis Carroll's fantasy, "Alice in Wonderland." Of course, wide-eyed Alice is portrayed by Sonja doing a ballet on skates in her fourth 20th Century-Fox picture, "My Lucky Star."

AN AMAZED LITTLE GIRL MEETS THE DOCILE WHITE RABBIT

The gentle fellow makes quite an impression on Alice in the novel ballet for "My Lucky Star." In one scene she dances on ice with the White Rabbit and the Ugly Duchess.

The agile actress makes Alice whirl and skip on skates in the ballet number. In addition to the "Alice in Wonderland" character, Sonja appears as a co-ed and a department store salesgirl in "My Lucky Star."

The surrealists - such as Salvador Dali, Mark Ernst, and Dorothea Tanning - recreated Alice in some metamorphic bodies and dreamland spaces. The femme enfant was also an important reference to the group. They believe that these characters, women and girls together, were sorceress of the unknown and the unconscious.

Recent artists such the french artist Lost Fish, slightly follow the path open by surrealists. Among marvels in a dream landscape, her Alice in Looking Glass is a femme enfant, ambiguous in its sweetness and crazyness, purity and strangeness. All the woman characters seem Alice. ALICE'S ADVENTURES UNDER GROUND

It’s a Portuguese translation for the original manuscript of Alice’s Adventures under Ground[1862-1864] that originated Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland [1865]. It’s widely known that the first version of this “endless fairy tale” was told by Lewis Carroll during the long boat trips with the Liddell sisters Alice, Edith and Lorina in the surroundings of Oxford where all of the lived. However, what few people know is that he gave to this real Alice, one manuscript illustrated by himself in the Christmas of 1862. Dedicated as a “Christmas Gift to a Dear Child in Memory of a Summer Day”, it became on essential link to the Alice’s studies. Connecting art and life, it gives us at the same time, the chance to follow the author’s creative process and the possibility to understand better was the final book was actually influenced by the relationships between Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll’s real name) [1832-1898] and Alice Liddell.

During that time, Carroll was also preparing another version of Alice’s Adventures to be published, following the advices of some friends. In this process the original story was extended and also changed in many aspects. New poems, chapters and characters were added to it, and a new text, more complex and sophisticated, was published in London by Macmillian, two years after that “golden afternoon”. Alice in Wonderland was then illustrated by a famous illustrator of that time, who worked at the punch: John Tenniel [1820-1914]. His illustrations has became great classics, considered many times as inseparable of the book, following the Alice’s suggestion at the beginning of her adventures: “what’s the use of a book without pictures and conversations?”

Carroll’s drawings and handwriting were maintained in this translation. I intended with this option, to preserve the peculiar characteristics from the original that would be lost with mechanical typography and conventional design. I believe that this might be a great present to the Brazilian public, especially to the Alice lovers. It’s a replica of one of the most wonderful presents that a girl has ever received as an “Unbirthday” gift, one love letter written not just to the one once considered Carroll’s “ideal of a little girl”, but also to all Alices of the world, in any age and any sex. It’s an intense invitation to one fascinating universe of Alice / Carroll that in on special day fell in a very deep whole.

Essa é uma replica de um dos mais maravilhosos presentes que uma menina já recebeu em seu “desaniversário”, uma carta de amor escrita não apenas para aquela que foi um dia considerada “ o ideal de menininha” por Lewis Carroll, mas à todas as meninas do mundo. Intenso convite para o fascinante universo de Alice/Carroll, que num dia especial mergulhou num poço profundo e ainda nos convida a mergulhar também.

"Ella Fitzgerald, an accomplished writer and dancer, and the wife of acclaimed author F. Scott Fitzgerald, began painting in 1925 when she took her first lesson. After an emotional breakdown in 1930 she was encouraged by doctors in Switzerland to paint as part of her therapy. She painted flowers, landscapes and cityscapes, and made several series of paper dolls for her daughter.

Her six gouaches (opaque watercolors) illustrating chapters in Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," and her fairy tale and nursery rhyme series, all from the 1940s, are considered her best work.

Fitzgerald used explosive color and dramatic compositions to illustrate the complexity of double meanings, satire, morals, and absurdities found in the literary texts. Because much of her art was done during concentrated periods while she was in and out of mental institutions, there is no complete record of her works. Some were lost and others were destroyed in the 1948 fire that took Fitzgerald's life at a Highland, N.C. mental hospital."

It is amazing to notice that most Alice illustrators do not depict Dinah.

While going down in the rabbit hole Alice asks: Does cats eat bats? Does bats eat cats?

Here Alice walks with Dinah to ask if she has ever eaten a bat. From the back, the silhouette of the cat resembles a bat.

Alice talks many times in the book about Dinah, contacting with her own primitive instincts to

eat and to be eaten. Sometimes I imagine Dinah as a kind of animal of power to Alice, the one she connects to obtain strenght and confidence.

It is so beautiful and poetic this image! The rythm of grass, the flowers and the hair creates a great dynamism. The image is full of mystery and sensuality.

Artist Florentijn Hofman, Örebro, Sweden.

His newest large-scale sculpture conceived for this summer’s openart biennale in Örebro, Sweden. Challenging the function and purpose of the public space, the 13-meter high installation explores the notion of scale and urban perspective by providing a new focal point in the open square.

As with his previous work, hofman’s sculpture involved the locals with more than 25 volunteers and craftsman coming together to construct the rabbit.

The Big Yellow Rabbit seems to be the discarded plush toy of one giant child. Although it looks all floppy and cuddly, this adorable art installation is actually made out of wood, making the sculpture far from physically comforting. Instead, it’s the super-sized rabbit’s look that will bring a smile to people’s faces.

an amazing 2012 calendar illustrated by japanense artist Hirai Takako.

It was a great pleasure to see this work, which joins the sweetness and childish universe, with a oneiric and paradoxical time and space concept. Our linear perception of reality is unbalanced and displaced. It is daring, imaginative and intelligent. Alicinations greets and welcomes this special wonderland.

"A couple of years after the first publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the recently established Aunt Judy's Magazine printed two new stories by Lewis Carroll: "Fairy Sylvie" and "Bruno's Revenge." Several years later, Carroll decided to use these as the basis for a novel, and in 1889 he was hard at work finalizing the first volume, Sylvie and Bruno, for publication.

Carroll enjoyed drawing throughout his life and he has been lauded as "the most outstanding photographer of children in the nineteenth century," but he always turned to professional artists when it came to illustrating his children's books.

The caricaturist Harry Furniss, who also illustrated the works of Dickens and Thackeray, worked for several years with Carroll on Sylvie and Bruno, and their collaboration is richly documented in a series of letters from Carroll to Furniss. Their correspondence discusses in detail the composition and illustration of the story, and Carroll has filled his letters with sketches to guide the artist.

Carroll hoped to see the first volume published by Christmas 1889, and in a letter (shown above) from September of that year, Carroll notes that "the case looks almost hopeless" because seven chapters still need to be illustrated. He then goes on to describe in detail a number of illustrations that he wants Furniss to try. To depict The Mad Gardener's Song in chapter 12, Carroll asks him to show an Albatross turning into a postage stamp. He then acknowledges, "I'm aware it's an almost impossible subject! But don't you think there is a certain zest in trying impossibilities?"

There is something about the unknown, when an exciting discovery shakes your brain, the flesh quivers, and the heart races just a little bit faster. Eyes pop open forward, with lips drying as the mouth gawks in sheer amazement. As an artist, this can be a regular occurrence when the talent of another is exposed for the first time. Witnessing technique or craft blended together of another’s style is a rewarding experience. It’s the beauty of being one who creates: You can marvel at others who do the same thing. When it's on, it rocks hard.

The perfect example is Japanese artist, Takato Yamamoto. Relatively unknown outside of Japan, there is a brilliance to his highly detailed illustrations that combine tight line work with moments of ukiyo-e, eroticism, bondage, ghostly images, and Bellmer-esque surrealism. Dark, with emotionless, stoic faces, the characters beautiful colors seem helpless, almost soft and doll-like in their positions. With four books already under his wing, Takato is prolific with a fantastic imagination, advancing the dynamics of his stylistic approach. Megumi Sakai: How did you get to be an artist?

Takato Yamamoto: I drew illustrations for commercial advertising, mainly in the 1980s after graduating from art university. In the 1990s, I had the yearning for UKIYOE to the cut-in illustration book, the work such as cut-in illustrations and cover illustrations of novels, and wanting to draw before increases. After 2000, I mainly worked on original paintings.

What inspires you as an artist? Which inspirations help you to make your stile?

My basic theme is the image of the universe operation that has repeated the circulating generation (life) and dismantlement (death). I express symbolically the image to be a man's body as the main motif, while taking the image of a plant, an insect, and other various objects.

Romain de Tirtoff (23 November 1892 – 21 April 1990) was a Russian-born French artist and designer known by the pseudonym Erté, the French pronunciation of his initials, R.T. He was a diversely-talented 20th century artist and designer who flourished in an array of fields, including fashion, jewellery, graphic arts, costume and set design for film, theatre, and opera, and interior decor.

Erté continued working throughout his life, designing revues, ballets, and operas. He had a major rejuvenation and much lauded interest in his career during the 1960s with the Art Deco revival. He branched out into the realm of limited edition prints, bronzes, and wearable art.

The words of Erté - from his memoirs - provide a wonderful description of the history surrounding the development of this exquisite set of images:

I began to compose my Alphabet in 1927, after the great success of my first exposition at the Galerie Charpentier in Paris in 1926. With my habitual optimism, I thought I would finish it for my next exposition at the Galerie Charpentier, which was already arranged for 1928-29.

I had not thought of all my other work, which I had to do at the same time. There was my contract with Harper's Bazaar, which required me to send a cover drawing regularly each month as well as a number of other drawing for fashion and decoration, in addition to occasional articles.

There was also my work for the theatre: in 1926 and 1928, two spectacular reviews, the George White Scandals, and in 1927 a musical comedy, Manhattan Mary, also produced by George White at the Majestic Theature in New York. In addition: numerous drawings for reviews at the Folies-Bergère in Paris and many theatrical costumes for opera singers such as Lucrezia Bori (of the Metropolitan, New York), Ganna Walska (Chicago Opera Company), Maria Kuznetsov (Paris Opera), etc. In short, at the time of my second exposition at the Galerie Charpentier in 1929, my alphabet was barely begun. I worked at it afterwards in every moment of relative calm. So its execution stretched out over a long number of years.

When I wanted to show it at the Grosvenor Gallery in London, in 1967, I realized that one letter of the alphabet had not yet been finished.

That letter was then finished in August, 1967, when I came back from Montreal, where I had designed the sets and costumes for a big spectacle at the Expo '67. Although the execution of the alphabet was thus broken up, the overall plan was already completely established in my head when I started to work on it.

A primeira vez que li Alice, me imaginei caindo com ela até chegar ao outro lado do planeta aonde vivem as pessoas de cabeça para baixo, isto é, para quem vive no Brasil, no Japão. Muitos anos depois eu descubro que no Japão estão algumas das mais estimulantes Alices vivendo nos dias de hoje, no cotidiano da cidade de Tokyo, compartilhando sonhos, criando novos mundos. Meninas e meninos que são crianças e adultos ao mesmo tempo, se vestem de bonecas vitorianas reinventando as ilustrações de John Tenniel, entre outras paixões e mimos. Entre gestos, trejeitos, aventais, rendas, meias, laços, babados, Alice vira um novo modo de viver na contracultura de bairros alicinantes como Harajuku, Shinjuku e Akihabara. Lugares aonde se celebra a outridade e a alteridade, abraçando o maravilhoso dentro da cartografia contemporânea, viajando no tempo e na invenção de si.

O nascimento da cultura Gosu-rori (gothic Lolita) coincidiu com a publicação da tradução de Fushigi no kuni no arisu por Yagawa Sumiko, como me mostrou Sean Summers em Arisu in Harajuku. Ele é o meu coelho branco que me revelou essa realidade surpreendente e em grande parte mal compreendida. Sumiko estimulou o florescimento de uma contracultura que libera a imaginação das rotinas sociais repressoras e repetitivas, abrindo a possibilidade de novas amizades com o tempo.

O país das maravilhas (Fushigi) revela um atmosfera de sensações, incluindo encantamento, maravilhoso, mas também mistério, estranhamento e medo. Fushigi no kuni no arisu foi traduzido de modo a penetrar nas necessidades existenciais de uma geração, particularmente uma juventude marginalizada e desajustada que podia assim enfrentar o mau estar, a depressão, a violência e a rejeição, através do maravilhoso manifestado no cotidiano.

Fushigi não sugere devaneio ou escapismo, aponta Sommers, mas uma terapêutica da criatividade e uma “alquimia da metamorfoses”. Uma subversão dos padrões do feminino, derrubando as fronteiras entre o que é feio e bonito, doce e perverso, violento e delicado. Vivemos na cultura da diferença, aonde entram em cheque uma pretensa criatividade e um desejo de unicidade conformado em fórmulas de existir, como identifica Cristiane Mesquita. (Ligeti was a 20th Century Hungarian composer most famous for his experimental music used to great effect in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.) Ela foi dançarina, encantadora de cobras, contorcionista e alvo de lançador de facas, mas depois de uma queda e da impossibilidade de continuar na dança, passou a se dedicar à fotografia.

Por que o erotismo presente em suas fotografias causa tanta celeuma?

O erotismo é a vida. É, por exemplo, uma rosa que se abre. Não é a pornografia. Quando paramos de desejar, não há mais vida. Ele é algo de velado em relação à pornografia. Esta depende de uma exibição, que é muito mais consumível de maneira carnal do que simplesmente mostrada. A pornografia pode ser, por exemplo, uma penetração, coisas vulgares, filmes pornôs. Ela é uma forma de excesso, mas que não tem nada a ver com o erotismo. Um olhar pode ser erótico, bem como uma pontinha da orelha, uma voz, uma certa maneira de pousar a mão sobre a coxa, um perfume, um jeito de mexer o corpo ou fazer surgir o tornozelo. O erotismo é algo misterioso, sem relação com uma cópula, que pode ser vista numa tela de cinema. O amor é algo vivido, pessoal e secreto. Ninguém pode ter acesso à intimidade de uma pessoa. A pornografia faz parte de um comércio execrável. A diferença entre a pornografia e o erotismo é muito sutil, da ordem do inefável.

Por que as fotos da sua filha Eva ainda provocam tanta polêmica, mesmo diante da sua concepção do erotismo na fotografia?

Eva e eu sempre tivemos uma grande cumplicidade. Eu fotografava as mulheres e ela estava lá, por perto. Eva sempre teve o teatro no sangue e acabamos fazendo essas fotos juntas. Nunca expus nenhuma ideia à minha filha. Todas as crianças brincam dessa maneira. Qualquer menininha traz dentro de si toda a feminilidade do mundo. Não se deve pensar que as crianças são bobas ou que vivem num universo em que não percebem nada. Não é possível refazer o trabalho que fiz com Eva com outras garotinhas da mesma idade. Eva é minha filha e tirei essas fotos por amor. Não é por ser minha filha, mas Eva é um personagem que me subjugou. Além de fotógrafa, Eva é atriz, faz teatro, dirige vídeos. Somos uma família de artistas. Atualmente, ela está dirigindo um filme que conta a nossa história. Isabelle Huppert interpreta o meu papel. Continuo a tirar fotos dela, mas são de outro tipo. As fotos que fiz com Eva já entraram na história da arte e estão para além de qualquer juízo crítico.

Eva Ionesco (born on 18 July 1965) is a French actress and film director, born in Paris. She is the daughter of Romanian-French photographer Irina Ionesco.

At the age of 5, Eva became her mother's favorite photo model. Irina Ionesco's erotic photographs of her young daughter Eva have been a source of controversy since they first appeared in the 1970s. Eva also modeled for other photographers such as Jacques Bourboulon.

She is the youngest model ever to appear in a Playboy nude pictorial, since she was featured at age 11 in the October 1976 issue of the Italian edition of the magazine in a set by Bourboulon. Another of her nude pictorials, in the November 1978 issue of the Spanish edition of Penthouse, was a selection of her mother's photographs. She made also the cover page of Der Spiegel.

Eva Ionesco made her movie début at the age of eleven in 1976, playing a child in Roman Polanski's movie The Tenant. A short time later she was cast in movies of the mid 1970s like Spermula and Maladolescenza (also known as Puppy Love). In 1977 her mother lost custody of her children and Eva Ionesco was brought up by the parents of footwear designer Christian Louboutin. She tried three times to sue her mother for emotional distress, and the trial is still going on through various courts in France. In 1998 the French police confiscated from her mother's appartment hundreds of photographs in which she appears at the age of five in suggestive poses and in complete nudity.

Her story served as inspiration for Louis Malle's movie Pretty Baby. In the 1980s, she attended the prestigious acting school Amandiers, directed by Patrice Chéreau and Pierre Romans. In 2010 she directs her first feature film, My Little Princess, with Isabelle Huppert.

"So the first question must be - who is this woman writing a review of a book of photographs of a young woman in the nude or partially clothed?

Well, I'm a little more than just that description, a mother with one adult daughter and three sons, also a grandmother of a little girl through my daughter.

I have loved the dreamy eroticism of the work of such photographers as David Hamilton since my early teens, and recently I attempted to co-author a book about.. the eroticism of certain nude or partly clothed teenaged or pre-teen girls.

So, that is the shocking bit out. Having said it, I can add that I've found several other women prepared to admit an interest in the same genre -- not many mind you, and the few that did admit it, did so very reluctantly.

Women as well as men can celebrate virginal beauty. But it goes much deeper than this, as most of the writers on this web site [Inquisition 21st century] have realized. We need to restore to eroticism its rightful sacredness.

Now, as I turn the pages of Eva: Eloge De Ma Fille, I see that Irina Ionesco has gone even farther than I had dared to go in my own imagination.

Some girls harbour a dark secret of fantasizing about being captured and put on display as objects for sale, a fantasy perhaps brought into being by being excessively warned at home about the dangers lurking abroad.

Looking at the pictures of Eva, I saw a beautiful daughter dressed up, half-dressed, naked, unveiled and re-veiled.

I saw her as a coquette, sometimes an angel, and sometimes a divine whore -- a delightful plaything.

Playing within a world created by a caring, loving woman, in Eva's case her mother, but it could equally be any woman, were it not for the society that has now criminalized such a game."

4 July marks the anniversary of the first telling of the story Alice in Wonderland. On a lazy rowing trip on the Thames in 1862, Charles Dodgson (better known by his nom-de-plume Lewis Carroll) told young Alice Liddell the story of a little girl who discovers a magical realm after falling down a rabbit hole. 10-year-old Alice, after whom the heroine was named, asked him to write the story down and Dodgson did so, entitling his manuscript Alice’s Adventures Under Ground.

It was published in book form as Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland in 1865 and a sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There appeared in 1871.

Traveler trough the multiplicity and metamorphosis, this girl was born in the river, its reflexes and paradoxes. Who are you? I can't say anymore after I have changed so many times since I woke up this morning. The metamorphoses of Alice overflow the original stories and wake up girls that sleep in me. As these dream girls overflow the colors and shadows of an old overhead projector.

Ilustrar os livros de Alice. Viajante da metamorfose e da multiplicidade, menina que nasceu no rio, seus reflexos e paradoxos. Quem é você? Eu já nem sei dizer depois de ter me transformado tantas vezes de que acordei. As metamorfoses de Alice transbordam o livro e despertam meninas adormecidas em mim. Como essas meninas sonhos que transbordam as cores e sombras de um antigo retroprojetor.

The first time I read Alice, I immediately imagined her falling until the other side of the planet where people live upside down, that means in Japan. Many years later I find that in Japan are some of the most exciting and fun Alices living today in the life of the city of Tokyo, sharing dreams, creating new worlds. Girls and boys who can be small dolls and dressed in Victorian fashion, reinventing the illustrations of John Tenniel, among other passions and pampering. Between gestures, mannerisms, aprons, lace, socks, ties, ruffles, Alice becomes a new way of living in counterculture in neighborhoods of Harajuku, Shinjuku and Akihabara. Places where they celebrated the otherness, traveling in time and originality.

The birth of the culture-Gosu Rori (Gothic Lolita) coincided with the publication of the translation of the Arisu Fushigi no Kuni by Sumiko Yagawa, as I shows Sean Summers in ARISU IN HARAJUKU . Sumiko stimulated the flowering of a counterculture that liberates the imagination of the repressive social and repetitive routines, opening the possibility of existential adventures . Wonderland (Fushigi) gained a deep sense that reflected social expectations that called for new ways to exist. Fushigi reveals an atmosphere of feelings, including charming, wonderful, but also mystery, strangeness and fear. Fushigi no Kuni Arisu was translated in order to penetrate the existential needs of a generation, particularly marginalized youth and a misfit who could well face the malaise, depression, violence and rejection, manifested through the wonderful everyday.

Fushigi is not daydream or escapism but suggests a therapeutic creativity and an "alchemy of metamorphosis." A subversion of the standards of women, breaking down the boundaries between what is ugly and beautiful, sweet and perverse, violent and gentle. Lolitas seek to prolong childhood and question the dominant culture, and child-like doll poses creates a game of being or not being that crosses the boundaries between art and life. Lolitas create for themselves a special place for the affirmation of sexuality and personal power in the new claim forms to exist between dreams and imagination.

But part of the very logic of contemporary fashion the constant Metamorphosis. The creation and expression of itself as an exercise in creativity also became a marketing game. We live in a culture of difference, where desire for creativity and uniqueness in conformal formulations exist. Clothes can be a place of expression in existential territory. But the fashion market also offers easy replacement of ephemeral identities to be consumed. How to distinguish one thing from another?

Alice is intriguing, destabilizing. It puts us in contact with the uncertainty, unpredictability, turbulence, non domestic and stereotipical sceneries. Breaking with hegemonic models of existence, new Alices must invent new worlds from listening to their inner selfs, accepting the eternal becoming and the permanent creating of ourselves.

diferente das ilustrações dele de alice..porém, a "tectônica" da imagem lembra o filme impressions de la haute mongolie, que é todo baseado no método leonardesco-paranoico-critico de perceber figuras em borrões abstratos. o filme é mais ou menos da mesma epoca. só que as figuras nessa imagem são muito destacadas, parecem colagens...no filme a transformação de borrões em figuras é mais sutil

no site da fundação gala-dali o catalogo das obras vai só até 1951, n dá p saber...
