Maggie Taylor through the Looking Glass of Alice

"When There's Anybody Worth Talking To"

"Maggie Taylor is a photographer and digital artist who works as a tailor, dressing Alice in many veils through her delicate and mysterious views of magic wonderlands. Playing with poetic strangements of surrealist inspiration, the Alices by Taylor overflow the predictable stability of Alice’s fixed identity in a paradox between the constant flux of transformations and the photographic stillness depicting a child who cannot grow. Her Alices are different girls in every image, between multiple photos carefully chosen in an old album of invented memories. Alice becomes both everybody and nobody. We witness magic tricks in illusionist strategies, playing with the codes of stage photography and representational devices like curtains, frames, stages and trompe l’oeil landscapes. Who is dreaming?" (Adriana Peliano about Wonderland illustrated by Maggie Taylor)
