Once upon a time there were three little sisters




In the last decade several artists began to play with the historical and biographical aspects of Alice books. These intertextual games appear in these images through collages and dialogue with the photos of Carroll and other references.


According to Martin Gardner in "annotated Alice" the tree little sisters that live in the well (presented at the Mad Tea Party) are the the Liddell sisters. Elsie is L.C. (Lorina Charlotte), Tillie is an allusion to Edith's nick name "Matilda" and Lacie is an anagram of Alice. That is the reference of this picture below, that recreates the Lewis Carroll's photograph of the Liddell sisters as the sisters at the well.
